Today's Military: Totaling 11.6 million, today’s U.S. military is competent, cohesive, and loyal to their units, mission, families, and those that support them. DoD figures show that in a year over 1.16 million service members are being deployed. The average length of deployment for active duty is 105 days. The average for the National Guard and the Reserve is 90 days. The total DoD is 99 days.
Over one third of military men, women, and families move during an average year and up to 800,000 move during a heightened year.
They are young (46.6% of active duty and 31.2% of Reserve and Guard) are 25 years and younger; educated (94.1% of enlisted have high school diplomas and 86.2% of officers have Bachelor’s or higher degrees), and more married than not (54.6% of active duty and 51.4% of Reserve & Guard married).
